Food Edition: Country Spare Ribs

Another staple in our household growing up was country spare ribs. It was a hearty meal that really filled you up. And it’s perfect for cool fall or cold winter days.

Country Spare Ribs

Get ready for this saucy, tender rib. Country spare ribs are hearty and delicious. Pair with your favorite sides and you'll have a complete comfort meal.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 package Country spare ribs (bone-in are more tender)
  • 1 head garlic, diced fine
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced fine
  • 1 can tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershir sauce
  • 2 tbsp light brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp lemon juice or vinegar

Method
 

  1. Boil the spare ribs in a large pot of water for 45 minutes. Save ½ a cup of broth.
  2. In butter, sauté the onions. Once sauteed, add the garlic and continue cooking for about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the tomato sauce, brown sugar, lemon, Worcestershire sauce, and broth. Simmer for 5 more minutes.
  4. Pour the mixture over the ribs. Bake at 350 for 25 to 35 minutes.

Notes

Growing up, we served spare ribs with mashed potatoes and green beans or corn. But choose whatever sides work for you. You can’t go wrong!
