Book Report: The Exorcist’s House

I know I keep saying this. But The Exorcist’s House, by Nick Roberts, needs to be a movie. I’d pay money to see it in a theater. It’s that good. I compared it to an early Supernatural episode.

In 1994, the Hills moved to a farmhouse in West Virginia. It’s beautiful and serene. But they soon begin hearing about the previous owner, Merle Blatty, who was an exorcists. Then they discover a small door in their basement that leads to a hidden room. Little do they know that what’s being secured in there by crucifixes will be the stuff of nightmares.

There’s so much to this book. The imagery. The evil. How an old exorcist tried to defeat this evil. Just amazing. I kept thinking about what I’d do in these situations. Especially when your mind starts seeing things that aren’t there. And this author really made me feel like I was there. The sights, the smells, what the characters were feeling, them losing control…all of it.

Here’s the premise of the book, which I thought characterized it so well: “Local legends about the previous owner being an exorcist come to light, but by then, all Hell has broken loose.” So fitting!

I found myself loving these characters. The Hills and the Exorcist. I knew there was a second book and couldn’t wait to start it. Read the next book report on the Exorcist’s House: Genesis to find out about that one!
