Book Report: Blood Stream

Next up in the FBI Agent Jade Monrow Live or Die Series by C.M. Sutter is Blood Stream. Book 6 starts out with the body of a woman with severe slashes on her face being discovered in North Carolina after a hurricane. Another body, identical to that one, is found along a Virginia stream. Agents Jade Monroe and Lorenzo DeLeon head south in search of clues. But with no evidence and more victims, will they solve this case?

This book was so fascinating. We knew who the killer was – someone who was mutilating women’s faces and then putting them into the water (or a dumpster or a tub) at various places. But our agents believe it all stemmed from Virginia, so they concentrated their efforts there.

Because of the damage, the women couldn’t be identified. It took a bit of guesswork to determine that there were initials carved on each woman’s cheek, then the word slut, and then DMMD.

We really got to see the agents put in a lot of research in this one. Mostly in the missing person’s database, looking for possible matches to their Jane Doe. And then locating the people who filed the missing persons reports.

It seemed like they were so close the entire time, yet still so far away. And that couldn’t be any truer when they found a witness who said the person dumping the ‘trash’ was a woman. If it were, she would have to be big and strong. Unfortunately, the police didn’t find the witness credible. Not only was he autistic, but he’s made these kinds of reports before.

Well, it turned out to be true, and they figured out the killer was a woman – the wife of Drew Mills, a cosmetic surgeon. Her last victim was her husband.

While interrogating the wife, Chris, you almost felt sorry for her. She was angry with her husband. They were supposed to be a happy family together, but their baby was born stillborn. She lost her way, and her model look became an overweight nightmare. She was depressed. Her husband couldn’t stand her anymore, or the way she looked. He was a monster of sorts who looked for women elsewhere. He had several women he was seeing at a time. Chris was out, and they were in. Until she killed them.

Overall, this is a great book. I’m so excited to keep reading this series.
