Last, but not least, is Book 12 of the FBI Agent Jade Monroe Live or Die Series by C.M. Sutter: Blood Brother. A sadistic serial killer emerges from the shadows and is calling the shots. He zeroes in on one person, and now she’s in his crosshairs with no escape. Jade vanishes without a trace. Nobody knows why she’s been taken or who is responsible for her disappearance.
Oh, this is going to be good!!
We meet Darryl, an inmate who’s been behind bars for years. His son Max is dead. But what put him in jail? The father and son team had killed dozens of people. At Darryl’s command, Max killed Jade Monroe’s father!! Jade hunted Max down, and she’s the reason he’s dead. And now, with Darryl dying of cancer, he is planning to use his nephew Justin to exact revenge on Jade. Jade, her sister Amber, and best friend Kate will be spending a long girls’ weekend at a cabin. That will be the perfect chance for Justin to take her out.
He nabs Jade when she gets back to the cabin alone to grab her bag. She’s knocked out and wakes up to being dragged. Her mouth is taped shut so she can’t scream. And her arms and legs were bound. She was tossed in a vehicle and driven somewhere. And I’m the meantime, Kate and Amber return to the cabin and find a disturbance in the leaves. But no Jade.
Justin drove Jade to a secluded area, yanked her out of the car, and smashed her with a rock. He took pics of her to send to Darryl as proof, then covered her with leaves and limbs.
Amber and Kate call the sheriff, but they have limited resources. Without Renz’s or Taft’s numbers, they reach out to Jack to get a hold of them. Renz didn’t hesitate. He gets on the road to the cabin and calls Taft on the way. Love that reaction from him.
Renz gets help from a chopper, canines, drones, and a whole list of other things. And in the meantime, Amber and Kate search their camera system for something that stands out. They tell Jack about an SUV that seemed to be watching Jade.
Oh my! Two men hunting heard moaning!! They saw unusual branches stacked and knew they had to search. They called 911 as soon as they found what made the moaning sounds. She was unconscious, bound, and lying on her stomach with matted hair and dried blood. They get her to a Green Bay hospital, which makes me laugh because that’s where Renz was. Anyway, she was admitted as a Jane Doe. But she’s alive.
Once she was out of surgery, the sheriffs were able to use the fingerprint reader. And to their astonishment, it came back that she’s an FBI agent! Going through many different teams and department,s he finally ends up talking with Taft. He tells her where Jade is and her condition.
Taft, Renz, and the team make their way to the hospital. When they see her, they don’t even recognize her.
Justin noticed there was no news of a missing FBI agent, so to be sure, he went back to the spot he left her. But she wasn’t there. Police tape, however, was. So he knows something happene,d but isn’t sure where Jade is or whether she’s alive or dead. What he doesn’t know is that Taft had trail cameras set up. His face and Tahoe get plastered all over the news. He has to leave town, ditch the Tahoe, and get to the prison for the reward.
In the meantime, Jade is transferred to the hospital in her hometown. But she’s lost five days’ worth of memories. She doesn’t know what happened to her or who kidnapped her.
Justin meets with Darryl at the prison and gives him a rundown of the events. Darryl was thrilled! And the bonus? Well, there was none. He dangled that carrot of nothing just so Justin would go through with it. Justin left in anger. All that he went through. For nothing. He torched his Tahoe and continued in his rental.
The team learns of the Tahoe and his name. Justin Kenworth. They find out where he is thanks to trackers in the rental. The team arrests him! Justin spills everything.
When Jade gets released, she and Amber go visit Darryl, who’s in the infirmary. He gasps with surprise. Jade tells him he will always be a nobody and will never win. Just the,n his monitors go off. He dies right there. That chapter of their lives is finally closed.
