It’s after Halloween, but why not continue with the scary theme! This time, I chose Now is the Time of Monsters by A.G. Mock. And let me just say, wow! This was such a great book!
We follow Cassie Kennedy, a mom to 5-year-old Bella Luna and a friend of Patricia Brewster. We learn about her horrible childhood, how her and her brothers endured so much trauma and sexual abuse at the hands of their uncle while their aunt let it happen.
Now, she’s plagued by horrible nightmares. Only, they seem to be real. She seems to have these amazing psychic abilities. And when a serial killer known as the Gemini begins killing young women, she tries everything to help. But the cops don’t believe her. Psychics aren’t real!
While the cops are trying to find this killer, Cassie ends up missing. When all is said and done, there is no Cassie. This whole time, the killer was her brother, Holden. Cassie, along with his other siblings, Joey and Solomon, were all different identities. They were all created when he was young as a way to distance himself from the trauma.
This was such an intense book. I loved trying to figure out how Cassie fit into all this and how she could use her psychic abilities to catch the killer. I also loved the cops working with a forensic psychiatrist to try to solve the puzzles and clues the killer left. He really did want to be stopped. It gave me such early Criminal Minds type vibes.
I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone who’s into Who Done It’s and Psychological Thrillers. It fits those categories perfectly!
