The Exorcist’s House: Resurrection was horrible. And awful. In all the right ways!
I knew the ultimate ending. The author, Nick Roberts, ensured that in the last book. I knew Maren was evil and alone. Her mother did, in fact, hang herself just like she saw in her visions.
I was not, however, prepared for everything else.
In the beginning, Maren dealt with pain and loss. But she learned to control the demon. We even got to see the ghosts of Daniel and Merle come back to help Nora and Maren deal with it.
Nora met Dean, and Maren found friendship in her stepsister, Kelsey. They all loved each other and became a really happy family.
Things happened here and there, but they all learned how to cope.
That was until Kelsey got mad at Maren over a boy, who threw Maren into a portapotty and broke her neck. Though she saw her sister Alice’s ghost, who told her to remain in control, she couldn’t. Maren lost all control and went on a rampage. Kelsey, the boy they both liked, and even Dean couldn’t escape her wrath.
Nora felt the best way was to meet her ‘daughter’ at the farmhouse, now a church, and seek help from Merle, Alice, Daniel, Buck, and even Luke. It should have been a warning sign when Nora entered the church, but it was a farmhouse instead. It also should have been a warning that she was able to enter the basement with the well and easily toss the trinkets from each person down into the well without anyone stopping her.
I missed that warning sign, too.
So, Nora brought them all back, but they were confined to the pew. Maren, too. She did, in fact, die that day. They were all trapped. Maren, well, the demon, rather, told Nora they were all going to hell. And the only way she could join them would be to hang herself. Just like in the visions she kept seeing. She’d rather burn in hell with them than be without. So, she did. She hung herself as predicted. But as she lost consciousness, she saw her friends and family burning. Nora, however, wasn’t joining them. “He’s been thinking about you since you left the well. You’ll never see your family again, Nora. they’ll burn while you live like a queen.”
What does that mean?!?!
While I ponder that question, Demon Maren walks out of the burning church. In search of her prince.
Now, interestingly enough, Demon Maren is mostly human since she left the farmhouse. Her powers were left behind. But she was searching for her prince. And as Maren’s memories filled her mind, she remembered a boy who met a priest in the parking lot of that now-burning church. His name was Bryan Stockton. Her plan is in motion.
“She was chaos in a world of order.”
“She was absolute evil.”
And now the resurrection was complete. But still tons of work to be done.
This is supposed to be the final in the series. But that ending made me feel there had to be another.
And if there is, I’ll be waiting to read it!
