Book Report: The Missing

I really thought The Missing, by Kiersten Modglin, was going to be like the other missing-type books I’ve read. I was wrong and pleasantly surprised.

Because of the way this book starts, with a woman swindling people out of their money by pretending to be someone she’s not, I really had the idea in my head that the main character was her. I was wrong. Which made it even more intriguing. It actually made me want to re-read it right away.

Anyway, five people end up stranded on a seemingly deserted island. They’re each secretive and you wonder if any of them has something to do with this. Who are they? What are they hiding? What do they have in common? Why these five? So many questions. And some don’t get along. While some are trying to make the most of their situation, some seem reluctant to help. Every choice they make will affect the others.

And when strange notes start appearing, it shatters their trust in each other.

This is another book I’d love to see turned into a movie. I loved the character evolution. How the most cynical man there became her protector, her savior. So much so that when she was rescued, she stopped at nothing to find out where he and the mysterious island were.
