What really made this story stand out to me was the way the author seamlessly blended the present with the past. As Willa uncovers the truth about her family’s history, each new revelation adds another layer to the mystery unfolding in the present. I loved watching everything slowly come together, with pieces from decades ago shaping the danger Willa faces now.
The family history was one of my favorite parts of the book. Learning what happened to Willa’s mother, her aunts, and the people who lived in Broken Bayou made every chapter more compelling. It was a reminder that in a small town, secrets have a way of lingering long after everyone thinks they’ve been forgotten. No matter how deeply they’re buried, the truth always seems to find its way to the surface.
There was always another mystery waiting around the corner. Between the abandoned family house, the dead aunts, hidden family secrets, suspicious townspeople, and the barrels discovered in the bayou, I never knew what was coming next. Every time I thought I had things figured out, the story surprised me.
This was such a fast-paced read that I had a hard time putting it down. The short chapters, constant twists, and eerie atmosphere kept me turning pages late into the night. If you enjoy atmospheric Southern thrillers filled with family secrets, small-town drama, and plenty of suspense, I definitely recommend picking this one up. I absolutely loved it!
