I was on my way to Texas…

I was on my way to Texas to pick up Devin, who had been staying at my parents house. I have to take the Indian Nation Turnpike and there are three toll booths to pass through. Luckily, I have a pike pass and don’t have to stop. However, they require you to slow down to an unimaginably slow speed. Apparently I didn’t slow down enough because I was pulled over by a State Trooper.

I was unbelievably nervous…

The cop got out of his car and walked slowly to my window. I already had my driver’s license pulled out waiting for him. I was so nervous and I bet he could tell. He said, “You were comin’ in a little hot through that toll plaza. If I write you a warning will you slow down?” “Of course! Yes! Yes!” I said stammering over each word. He walked back to his car with my license while I sat pondering what I was going to say next.

He noticed my NRA shirt…

When he walked back to my car, he noticed I was wearing an NRA shirt. “NRA, huh? Guess you’re not a Hilary supporter.” “No,” I said calmly. “Is that a good thing or a bad thing?” I didn’t want him to change his mind about the ticket. “That’s a good thing. In fact, we’re all gonna need guns and sooner rather than later.” I laughed, he laughed and we both went about our business. I drove the speed limit all the way to my parents’ house. It may have taken me a lot longer than I had hoped, but at least I didn’t get pulled over again!

Pondering the state trooper’s advice…

So I was thinking about what the cop had to say. He was one of the nicest cops I have ever met. Luckily, though, I don’t meet many. But I was thinking back to the advice he gave. I was thrilled to hear how open he was about gun ownership. It didn’t surprise me, I believe most cops want people to own guns. Not just own them, but learn how to use them properly. But I became quite concerned at the thought that he, and probably cops all over the country, are that concerned over the gun control discussion from the likes of Hillary, Bernie, etc. It’s a very scary thought. And I hate to think that our Second Amendment right could be taken away from us so easily. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.
