So my dad just recently lost his left leg below the knee. A blot clot formed and by the time the doctor found it, it was too late to save the leg. So we’ve been giving them space and hadn’t visited in a while. Well, they decided it was time and the four of us (plus Bailey) made the six-hour trip to Texas. I was so glad to see them and so glad to see how well my dad was coping.
I was so glad to see them and so glad to see how well my dad was coping. He was in great spirits and explained what happened to both boys. Devin seemed to really understand. Braden, however, was a little more confused. “Where is your leg?” My dad explained that he had left his leg at the hospital. “Why did you leave your leg at the hospital?” The questions went on and on. It was quite comical!
Braden wasn’t the only one adding some comedy into the mix. Maybe that’s why we were invited! We can always find the humor in things! Anyway, Devin had some glow necklaces that he was playing ring toss with. Of course, we didn’t have the stick to throw them on but Devin can use his imagination for just about anything. All of a sudden, my dad throws up his ‘stump’ and says “Here you go! Use this!” I was both mortified and amazed at the same time! I was shocked he had done that and even more shocked that he could get his leg up so high. He reminded me that with less weight, it was much easier to do!
I love my parents, love our visits to Texas and love even more how they’re coping with the situation. I wish him a speedy recovery and can’t wait to see him with his prosthetic.
