A Place That Grows With Your Kids: Why We Love the Science Museum

We go to the Science Museum Oklahoma every chance we get.

Austin is 7, and he loves it more than all of us combined.

For as long as I can remember, he’s been telling us he wants to be a scientist—so at this point, we’re just fully leaning in and doing everything we can to feed that curiosity.

And the science museum? It’s the perfect place for that.

Honestly, it’s one of those places that works for all of us.

I love sneaking off (or convincing him to come with me) to the train section when I can.

And for me personally, I always enjoy the smART Space—it’s one of those areas that feels a little different every time. The kids and I also really like Elemental Worlds.

There’s always something new to notice, even as an adult.

A Place That’s Been With Us Through Everything

We’ve been coming here for years—honestly, since Austin was a baby.

He was born about a year before COVID, and during that time, this was one of the few places we could go to get out of the house and let him just be a kid. He’d play in the little playground, stack those giant blocks, and burn off energy that we definitely couldn’t contain at home.

That season made this place feel even more special to us.

Real Life: Leaving Isn’t Always Easy

We don’t usually have full meltdowns when it’s time to go… but there’s definitely some disappointment.

Mostly because he didn’t get to one more thing—even if he just spent an hour doing something else.

Which honestly just tells you how much there is to do there.

What About the Big Kid?

Braden is 13 now, so he doesn’t go as often, but he still enjoys it—especially anything hands-on. He’s also a big fan of the excavators.

He’ll probably never fully outgrow it… but right now, Austin is definitely the one getting the most out of it.

Why We Keep a Membership (And Why It’s Worth It)

We’ve had a yearly membership for years, and for us—it’s 100% worth it.

We go a lot. Especially:

  • In the summer (hello, Oklahoma heat)
  • In the winter (when it’s too cold to do anything else)
  • Basically anytime we need to get out of the house

It’s become one of our go-to “easy adventures.”

A Few Tips If You’re Planning a Visit

  • Go in the morning if you can—you’ll want the time
  • Plan to stay for hours (seriously)
  • Bring snacks/drinks or plan for concessions
  • Wear good shoes (this is not the day for cute but uncomfortable)
  • If you have little kids: bring wipes… lots of wipes

Also—food there is actually pretty good, the coffee is decent, and the slushies are a hit with everyone.

Why We Love It So Much

It’s one of those rare places that works no matter the weather, no matter the mood, and no matter the age.

But more than that—it feeds something really important in Austin.

His curiosity.

His need to understand how things work.

His love of learning, building, exploring, and yes… running around like crazy.

And I love that we can support that in a place that feels like play to him.

If you’re local and haven’t been (or haven’t been in a while), I can’t recommend it enough.

We’ll definitely be there again soon… probably starting in CurioCity.
